Hello! I'm Lee Munsell👋

and I want you to have a free print from my

Pacific Northwest Collection #1

Recognized By

Working with Lee Munsell was an absolute pleasure! We had seen one of his pieces in Oregon and really liked his work. We reached out to him to inquire if we could commission a piece. The process was non-stressful and he delivered a beautiful piece called "Remembering." I definitely would recommend Lee.

Lee never disappoints in how he is able to encapsulate both magnitude and great detail in his paintings. They take you places, and in this case, we needed to be brought back to our happy place….Morro Bay. It's the centerpiece of our house, the first thing you see when you walk in. The painting is even more stunning in person! Thank you, Lee!!!

Lee's creations are a treasure

to me. Whenever I feel

stressed or down, I take a

deep breath and go to a

serene, peaceful, place. Lee's

paintings are that place, I look

at the paintings and I feel like

I'm in them. He paints God's

world in a way that is very

spiritual and draws one into

God's secret place.

This is an interesting story. My gal and I were spending the weekend together in Fort Bragg at a nice hotel overlooking the ocean. We were sitting out on the balcony, kid-free, for some great “us” time. We saw a gentleman painting near the cliffs by some really nice tree formations. We watched him for a little over an hour and tried to guess what he was painting. The eagerness to know was starting to eat at us. So, we decided we would walk down and check it out. We met Lee and what a great experience. He was an all-around awesome guy who we were lucky to chat with for a while. We had tons of questions and Lee was such a pleasure to talk with. We loved the painting he was doing too so much; we bought it on the spot unfinished. There's nothing better than getting to actually know, speak with, and understand the mindset and drive of someone you can actually watch while they are painting it. We got a little paparazzi with Lee while he was painting and was very pleasant with us. Paintings to us, are all about the story. This is a story we tell to any one of our friends and family that come over. Lee went above and beyond by sending us progress to the painting we had purchased and even had it framed for us. He was heading south to Point Lobos (another favorite spot of ours), and we asked him to send what he was painting there as well. We bought that one too! It's impressive the attention to detail he has. Coupled with a warming personality, and the passion to paint what he sees, Lee's work is our favorite. We not only have amazing paintings of our favorite spots, but we also met a great friend along the way. He shipped both paintings to us and we hung them immediately. Thanks Lee, you have helped add to our life story. Thanks, and we greatly appreciate you!

“This is such an incredible inspiring work Lee--in my opinion, you have ascended to a new level with this piece, in design, color, and emotional impact. As soon as I laid eyes on this painting, I was struck by its power--it radiated in the rooms of paintings I was judging. Your intellect, passion, and faith shine through the layers of paint, conveying the evidence and spirit of Creation in both a poetic and prosaic way. "Best in Show" CONGRATULATIONS, Lee!”

The Journey Home, (some of my story)

When I was about nine years old, I became interested in drawing pictures of hot rods, planes and various other things. My mother picked up on this and enrolled me in a Saturday art class at a local art shop in our town. At that first summer class, a group of us kids were fortunate to have a Disney animator come in and teach us drawing.  I still have the sketch pad of some of the sketches he did of Bambi, Mickey Mouse, Goofy and other Disney characters.

The next several summers we learned oil painting from Bonnie Wade.  She had a bin of different prints by various artists, and we would pick out what we wanted to paint, and she would help us with the process.  I still set up my palette pretty much the way she showed us. One of my most frequent picks were paintings by Vincent Van Gogh. some of these I still have to this day. When I was in high school, Miss Wade said we had learned all she had to teach us. Time to fly!

During the years after high school, I spent more time surfing than painting.  I did an occasional picture but did not have the motivation to pursue a career in art. I had the tools but lacked the vision and the waves promised more excitement.

In the summer of 1968, my life radically changed when I was challenged to find out who Jesus was.

Having explored Eastern religion a bit and practices, this was a real eye opener for me.

Not realizing the adventure ahead, many things began to change.

Among the changes... I was one of three artists who painted several murals in a large

mansion in the pacific Northwest. Another part of the adventure began when I

married Lorrie Conradson in 1972, and children were not long to follow.

In the late 1970’s I began to get back into painting.  We were still living up in the Pacific

Northwest, and I had a chance to explore the Puget Sound coastline for subject matter.

In 1979 the family was growing, and we moved back to California.  I was back to painting

more ocean scenes.

A few years later I was at an outdoor art show at Concordia University in Irvine, California.

One of the photographers in the show had a shot of an amazing old Monterey Cypress

hanging on the edge of a cliff above the ocean. I asked him if I could paint a copy of his

photograph and he replied “No, you’ll have to go find it yourself.”

After some searching, I was able to find that tree in Point Lobos State Reserve just

three miles south of Carmel, California. That cypress is called the "Old Veteran."

This was a game changer for my painting. The whole process of trying to

capture the details of that tree took me about a year to complete.

Since that time, I have concentrated primarily on the West Coast for subject matter, taking several trips up and down coast of California, Washington, and Oregon. We also have taken several trips during the fall season over to the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina.

One other event had a major impact on my direction as an artist. It probably has had as much of an influence on me as finding and painting the Old Veteran.

In October of 1997, the Promise Keepers organization held an event in Washington, DC. After attending that event, I had a chance to visit the National Gallery of Art, which was having an exhibit of the late 1800’s painter Thomas Moran.  This introduced me to the Hudson River School painters, their spiritual views of the Creation and has become a whole new level and reason for painting to seek to strive for.

Out of all of those adventures was born this first of a Collection of the West Coast and other paintings. I hope you find these 5 paintings and others to follow, both inspiring and uplifting. It's the Creations beauty and truth which touches our hearts and minds.

Blessings,

Lee Munsell

If you've ever hiked the Pacific Northwest, you know the feeling

of peace that comes over you. Being deep in the lush green forest, or out

headlands that reach down into the never ending swells... walking

near the giant sea stacks that are like temples that speak of the

"Reflections"

Cannon Beach's Haystack Rock has been standing

since long before Lewis and Clark visited in November 1805.

Walking along this beach and standing next to this monolith,

lets you know how small you really are.

While I was writing this, it just dawned on me,

this sea stack is called Haystack Rock, and the two others

are called the needles.

What is that old saying about a needle and a haystack?

The water is amazing!! Beautiful painting, Lee.

There are several things that this painting speaks to me, but one thing that it recalls is the verse in Matthew 6:26 "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns: yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? If you look closely there is a seagull sitting at the top of the spire. When I saw him, I thought "I bet he's considering going out for one more dive before the sun goes down." He's "watching" for another chance. I'm reminded our God is a provider of the birds and He will provide for me and my family.

Blessings,

Hi Lee. I’ve cruised around Cape Flattery several times on our return from the San Juan islands. It’s quite an experience. Great paintings.

Hi Lee, I know you don’t know me. But I’ve been following you on Facebook. And this is the prettiest painting. I think I’ve ever seen you do. So congratulations on the purple ribbon. You really deserve it.
